This blog is dedicated to all the good folk at Microsoft. Especially, the honoured leader, William Henry Gates III:

Sometimes one just has to step back a little and reflect on how things really are. Obviously there is much to say about Microsoft. Indeed many wonderful things are said. But the question remains, do you love MS?
Oh, but you came to this page hoping to find out who I am?

This is the most recent photo I can find - about a year old. I did have what I thought was a much more charming photo, but various well-meaning Americans tell me, I have to wear a suit to get taken seriously. Also, I must admit that the other photo was several years older, when I looked more youthful. For the benefit of the eagle-eyed (who may notice an apparent claimed connection to Imperial College, London), I should also state that I got my first degree from Cambridge (Trinity College).
I am a finance type. I qualified as an accountant (the UK equivalent of CPA) in 1976 and have spent time in M&A, promoting various companies, and even three years in H M Treasury (the UK finance ministry). These days I work for myself.
I have no love for MS, mainly because it is an abusive monopoly. On the other hand, some of its software is ok. Some open source software is also ok, but you often have to spend time delving into lengthy and obscure text files to make it work properly, which is not everyone’s idea of fun.
I mainly use Mac, since it switched to OS X.
